We aim to provide high quality patient counselling and evidence based surgical management of all Upper GI conditions, ranging from benign conditions such as reflux disease, gallstones and obesity, to complex oesophagogastric malignancy (cancer) and revisional (redo) antireflux and bariatric surgery.

Brisbane Upper GI Surgery is based at The Wesley Hospital, Suite 75, Level 3, Sandford Jackson Building, 30 Chasely Street, Auchenflower, 4066. Outreach clinics are conducted every second week at North Lakes Specialist Centre and Priority Health Medical Centre, Springfield Central.

Surgery is performed at The Wesley Hospital, Auchenflower and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Spring Hill. These 2 hospitals offer the best Upper GI surgical facilities and post-operative Nursing care in Queensland. The vast majority of cases are performed using advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques and employ enhanced recovery protocols to optimise the patient experience and return to normal life.

Dr Dodd can promptly see new patients and arrange further investigations, as indicated. Ben has advanced training in laparoscopic Upper GI cancer surgery and revisional bariatric surgery.  He has a particular interest in advancing Upper GI laparoscopic surgical techniques and improving the patient experience through employment of enhanced recovery techniques. He has strong professional relationships with Nursing Staff, Dieticians, Psychologists, Oncologists and Gastroenterologists ensuring patients benefit from multidisciplinary team care at all times.

For uninsured patients wishing to be treated publically, your GP, Gastroenterologist or other specialist can make referrals directly to the Upper GI Surgery (Unit IV) Outpatient clinic at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

For uninsured patients wishing to have weight loss surgery, accessing your superannuation can be employed in appropriate cases. Please discuss with Dr Dodd.
