The Practice
Welcome to the Bariatric and Upper GI Surgery practice of Dr Ben Dodd. Dr Dodd aims to provide excellent advice and surgical management for patients for bariatric surgery, reflux disease/hiatus hernia, gallbladder disease and hernias.
Ben has a particular interest in a positive surgical experience, pain minimisation and enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). This provides patients with a safe and comfortable experience so they can get back to a normal life sooner.
Brisbane Upper GI Surgery is co-located with Obesity Surgery Brisbane at the Chermside Health Hub, Suite 204, Level 2, 621 Gympie Road, Chermside, Qld, 4032. Weekly consultations are also conducted at The Wesley Hospital Sessional Suites, Level 2, Wesley Medical Centre, 40 Chasely Street, Auchenflower, 4066.
Ben is actively involved in the teaching of junior doctors, nurses and students. He actively contributes to Bariatric and Upper GI Surgery research projects along with quality improvements activities.
Dr Dodd can promptly see all new patients and arrange any necessary investigations. He has a particular interest in advancing Upper GI laparoscopic surgical techniques, improving the patient experience through employment of enhanced recovery (ERAS) techniques. He understands the surgeon role within the surgical team environment, and has strong professional relationships with Nursing Staff, Dieticians, Psychologists, Oncologists and Gastroenterologists. Patients benefit from multidisciplinary team care at all times.
For uninsured patients wishing to be treated publicly, your GP, Gastroenterologist or other specialist can make referrals directly to the Upper GI Surgery (Unit IV) Outpatient clinic at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
For uninsured patients wishing to have weight loss surgery, accessing your superannuation can be employed in ethically appropriate cases. Please discuss with Dr Dodd.
